"Divine Discipline"

Dear Friend,

John’s gospel reveals God’s desire and commitment to give us certain rights in his divine family. These include divine care, protection and guidance. Good parents provide a fourth right to their children: discipline.

Parents who love their children discipline them so they develop into self-disciplining adults. The scriptures teach that because God loves us, He disciplines us so we can become fully mature, self-disciplining souls.

Your response to the Heavenly Father’s discipline is key. Proverbs 12:1 says, “Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.” (NIV)

This scripture reminds us of the value of divine discipline. The result will be increased knowledge and spiritual maturity. God exercises His right as our divine Father to correct us. We in turn exercise our right as His children to receive this correction and live more effective lives.

May God bless you as you pursue fullness of life in the family of God.
