“Nurture Your Soul"

Dear Friend,

To nurture my soul and to help me grow in Christ I try to read several sermons every week by the greatest preachers in Christian history. In a sermon I read this week by Charles Spurgeon, he said, “Truth once reigned supreme upon our globe, and then earth was paradise. Man knew no sorrow while he was ignorant of falsehood. The father of lies invaded the garden of bliss, and with one foul lie he blighted Eden into a wilderness, and made man a traitor to his God.” In this quotation I found three ideas upon which I have been meditating:

  • Humanity once lived in paradise. Our souls were created for a life
more noble than the one we live.
  • A lie and humanity’s deception ”blighted Eden …and made man a
    traitor to his God.”
  • My soul’s only hope for a return to paradise comes through the
    truth of Jesus Christ.

I find Christ to be altogether wonderful because of who He is, what He did and what He promises to do. I encourage you to dedicate some time today to meditate upon the human condition and the promises of Christ.
