“Why Does God Test?”

Dear Friend,

What bubbles up from your memory when you think about tests? Most of us probably remember the tests that turned into nightmares, rather than those we aced. The most important tests in life are not printed on paper, and don’t receive a recognizable grade.

The following questions produce clarity of thought if we answer them honestly.

Why are tests necessary? Have you ever been tested in an unfair way? Who benefits most: the one giving the test or the one taking the test? The Bible states plainly and often that God tests His children.

  • Why are divine tests necessary? God uses tests to help us recognize where we have matured and where we need to mature.

Does God ever give us an unfair test? No – God is not interested in failing anyone. His stated purpose is to stand us all up on the day of evaluation “without spot and without blemish.”

Who benefits most from divine testing: God or man? All divine tests are for our benefit. God only tests us because of His consistent desire to see us grow to our full maturity.

On Sunday we learned that the trial of our faith is precious. Sometimes our feelings misguide us. If God is testing you, it is proof that He values you. And He is at work to increase your essential value.
