“Disappointment”

IDear Friend,

Our word “disappointment” originates in the word “disarrange.” We are disappointed when things do not turn out the way we arrange them in our hopes, plans or expectations. Since this is true, we deal with our disappointment by rearranging things. Perhaps rearranging your ideas and plans in three important areas will help you deal with your present disappointments.

  1. Situations – Some situations guarantee continued disappointment. How can you rearrange these situations and create different outcomes?
  2. People – Rearrange your expectations about people. Instead of expecting perfection, accept the inescapable imperfections of human nature.
  3. Self – Our most painful disappointments are the ones we feel about ourselves, but we can rearrange our expectations by being more honest about our strengths and weaknesses.

The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 12:11, Do not be slothful in zeal. By this he means we must not be lazy, but inspired in our life efforts. To properly deal with disappointment, we must abandon our tendency to accept the status quo. We do this by an inspired effort to rearrange our lives.
