Christian Citizenship

Dear Friend,

I learned an insightful maxim, “A man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion still.” This is a poetic way of explaining that we really can’t argue anyone into believing anything. Perhaps we could change the tone of political debate if we really believed powerful ideas prove themselves, and integrity of personhood is more persuasive than insult and innuendo. Thankfully, in my opinion, we are less than a month from selecting a new administration. While I prefer one candidate to the other, I am praying daily for both Obama and McCain.

I pray for them because I genuinely believe “The King’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, and he turns it whichever way He wills” Proverbs 21:1. I am also praying because it is an expression of Christian citizenship. Finally, I am praying because I believe anyone willing to endure what these candidates are enduring deserves prayer.

Please join me in the noble intention of practicing the Golden Rule in our political debates. I believe God will be honored.
