What is your “GQ?”
Dear Friend,
When I was a boy in school, I took standardized tests from time to time. These tests were named after states. Perhaps that made sense to some, but to a boy like me, it made little sense to take a California test when I lived in Minnesota.
Most colleges believe they can predict one’s success or failure by a standardized test. One of these college entrance exams is called “ACT.” Oddly enough, the other goes by “SAT.” To a smart aleck like me, it seems that acting and sitting are two very different activities!
A decade ago, I learned about another acronym, “EQ” or Emotional Quotient. Did you know your EQ is just as important as your “IQ” (Intelligence Quotient)? EQ isn’t determined by standardized tests, but rather by our capacity to work well with others. It seems that EQ, more than IQ, determines our success in life.
In our study of atheists and agnostics, I’ve found a common theme. Generally these groups believe themselves to be more intelligent than the rest of us in the “unenlightened masses.” I do not believe that faith or agnosticism expresses aspects of intelligence. I do believe that faith and agnosticism reveal the human ability—or inability—to live in a healthy relationship to the Lord God.
Perhaps to IQ and EQ we might add “GQ,” which is our God Quotient.
The God Quotient reveals our willingness to seek the Lord, call upon His name and draw near to Him in our souls. Might you take a moment today to explore your GQ?
