"Personal Change ”
Dear Friend,
Personal change is challenging. Almost everyone has attempted to correct a bad habit, only to find in spite of their best attempts, that habit lingers or even grows worse. So, what is the key to significant change?
- Perspective – Change in behavior commonly follows a change in the way we live life.
- Daily Habits – When we succeed in creating small changes in our daily schedules andpractices, these small changes can add up to significant new habits.
- Soul Development – Christianity teaches that each of us must confront our sinful dispositions. This requires faith in Christ and spiritual disciplines.
- Hearing – Change occurs when we honestly listen to others and critically listen to ourselves.
- Values – External change follows internal values. Jesus once said, “Where a man’s treasure is there will his heart be also.”
- Relationships – Often, changing bad habits and life patterns requires a partnership in which you become accountable to someone you trust.
The apostle Paul summarized this approach to life change when he wrote in Galatians 5:16:
“Live by the Spirit I say, and do not gratify the desires of the flesh.”
