“A Life that is Charming to God ”
Dear Friend,
Not long ago, I read John Ortberg’s book, God is Closer Than You Think. I highly recommend it for people who desire practical advice for living a life that is aware of the presence of God.
Ortberg wrote: “We were not made to serve God. We were made to charm Him.” Ever since I read these two sentences, I have been unable to escape the profound idea that God finds more delight in a heart that desires to be charming to Him than in all our desperate efforts to do our duty.
I am making an effort to be charming in three ways:
- Pleasant conversational prayer.
- Attempting to discern the qualities of soul that God enjoys.
- Loving people that God loves.
If you think about it, these qualities make us charming to people, and people are created in the image of God. Join me in the spiritual experience of living a life that is charming to God.
The psalmist charmed God when he wrote:
“I will sing of the steadfast love of the Lord forever;
with my mouth I will make known Your faithfulness to all generations.”
