“Life’s Road Map”

Dear Friend,

Every good trip includes a map—or at least some sense of how to get from where you are, to where you are going. If we compare life to a trip, we find ourselves asking: What am I using as my map?

The prophet Isaiah suggested three life map concepts in Isaiah 33:22:

  • "The Lord is our judge.” God helps us evaluate where we are in our life potential and where we should be.
  • “The Lord is our law giver.” There are rules of the road, like speed limits, stop signs and No U Turns. God helps us to live at the right speed, and stop where we should stop. Sometimes He prohibits us from turning around and going back to old and ineffective ways of living.
  • “The Lord is our King.” Is it not joyful to think of the Lord as the “Road King?” (Sorry, I couldn’t help myself!) Or you may think of the Lord as the guide who directs you along the pathway of life.

Isaiah insightfully directed our attention to these three qualities of God that help us live better and more effective lives. I encourage you to check your life map sometime today. If you find yourself on a wrong road, whisper a prayer for redirection. If you are on the proper road, whisper a prayer of thanksgiving.
