The Four “Ologies”
Dear Friend,
To live a quality life we need to accept reality in at least four arenas of life. Perhaps I can label them the four “ologies” – biology, psychology, sociology, and theology.
- Biology studies the physical realities of the human body living in a material world. Biology requires proper nutrition, exercise, and recreation.
- Psychology deals with the life of the soul. It explores how we think, feel, and choose.
- Sociology studies how we relate as individuals to our families, communities, and broader society.
- Theology teaches the reality of the human soul in relationship to the Lord our creator and redeemer.
If we ignore any of these four realities of life we harm ourselves and live incomplete lives. King David the psalmist said in Psalm 27:11, “Teach me Your way O Lord.”
Perhaps your life might be enriched if you would take a moment and consider the four “ologies” in your life and then offer up David’s prayer. It might sound something like this: “How am I doing in my biological life? Am I taking care of the only body I will ever get? Lord, teach me your way so that I might live a quality biological life.”
God bless you as you explore and improve the four “ologies” of your life.
