Inner Peace

Dear Friend,

Isaiah introduced us to the psychology of peace when he wrote that God preserves peace in the souls of those who think about the right things.

Dr. Phil McGraw wrote a book entitled, Life Strategies. In this book he said: “Life must be managed rather than cured.” And then he offered five suggestions for managing our lives.

    1. Apply to your personal life the things you learn.
    2. Resolve personal problems rather than endure them.
    3. Beware of unanswered questions or don’t give in to the “what ifs” of life.
    4. Accept responsibility. Your life is yours and you are responsible for it.
    5. Honor your agreements to others and to yourself.

It seems to me that Dr. Phil’s fifth idea about managing life and Isaiah’s philosophy of peace work well together. If we invest the time to discern helpful and hurtful thought patterns—and then make a commitment to ourselves to abandon the hurtful and pursue the helpful—we can live with higher levels of inner peace and well-being.
