Spring Cleaning

Dear Friend,

Easter reminds us all that spring is almost here and for many people the thoughts of spring lead directly to projects we call “spring cleaning.” Spring cleaning is necessary because over the winter our living space becomes cluttered.

Have you ever considered a spring cleaning of your mind? Charles Swindoll wrote: “I can name at least five sources of mind-clutter common to the twenty-first century.”

  1. We fill our lives with too much activity because we are unable to say no.
  2. We rob ourselves of rest and recreation because we believe the myth that we can do it all.
  3. We miss the joy of celebrating achievements because we rush from one task to the next.
  4. We fill our lives with anxiety because of debt and work ourselves into a slave existence to pay one more bill.
  5. We live with the self-deception that the simplified life is not rich or meaningful.

I encourage you to use each of these five sources of clutter to evaluate what is happening in your mind, heart, and life.
