Adaptive Confidence
Dear Friend,
I learned a new concept recently from Robert Quinn, author of Building the Bridge as You Walk On It. Quinn teaches the idea of “Adaptive Confidence.” He explains this term by writing: “The [adaptive] person has confidence to learn from experience, moving forward into uncertain situations, knowing that self and others can adapt and learn in real time.” This concept of adaptive confidence is inspiring to me for several reasons:
- First, it affirms my belief that we grow into our full potential by accepting challenges that are too hard for us. And as we engage in the challenge, we learn and grow.
- A second inspiration I glean is the value of living confidently. Confidence brings energy and a heightened awareness. So, confidence and faith partner together, helping us to meet the challenges of life.
Are you confident of your ability to learn from life experience and adapt yourself to meet new challenges? Perhaps the proverbist thought the same idea as Professor Quinn when he wrote in Proverbs 16:16: “Get wisdom. It is more valuable than silver and gold.”
