You Don’t Have to Be Afraid
Dear Friend,
English philosopher Francis Bacon wrote: “Nothing is terrible except fear itself.” I think we can glean three life insights from this quote:
First – Rarely is life as terrible as fear implies it will be. Even the most difficult experiences seem to be softened by God’s wise providence.
Second – Fear seems to make good situations worse and bad situations terrible. But, it is the fear more than the situation that pushes us into ugly places.
Third – Fear is an option that we don’t have to choose. The alternatives are courage, faith, hope, and adventure.
Of what are you afraid? How is fear pushing you into places you don’t have to be? Where in your day might you create time to seek divine courage and faith, and displace the tyranny of fear with the wonder of adventure?
