What is Worship?
Dear Friend,
The word “worship” seems to have lost a decisive definition in the English language, and apart from church, we rarely hear the word. So, what do we mean by the word “worship?”
- Worship implies a system of values, a capacity for appreciation, and an inclination to praise. Worship begins in the mind. We think about and meditate on those qualities of God that we value.
- Worship becomes an act of the heart. We appreciate, we are stirred, and we feel a rising sense of awe.
- Worship is an act of praise. We sing, we pray, we speak out—lauding the wonder and goodness of God.
Review Revelation 1:5-6 and 4:8-11, and you will discover that very different types of beings follow this pattern of worship.
I appeal to you to create some worship time during this Christmas Season. The psalmist said, “Let every thing that has breath, praise the Lord,” and may you do so as well.
