God’s Greatest Gifts
Dear Friend,
I recently confronted the question of what I want. In fact, my family asked me what I wanted for my birthday. I found it difficult to offer them ideas. How strange that as a 16 year old boy, I knew exactly what I wanted. But as a middle-aged man, I find the things I want the most can not be wrapped up and given as a birthday present.
The psalmist recognized this same impulse in his heart when he prayed: “Turn to me, O Lord, and be gracious to me.” The psalmist desired a more real experience of God’s presence and for God to give him what was really best for him.
Imagine that it’s your birthday and your Heavenly Father asks you, “What do you want?” Can you hear the whisper of the Holy Spirit inclining you to pray: “Turn to me, O Lord, and be gracious to me?” The presence and grace of God are the most valuable gifts you will ever receive.
