The Work of the Church is Eternal

The campaign for the presidency of the United States of America is in full force. Each candidate believes he has the character and ideas to be the next president. This does not surprise me. What shocks me is the amount of money donated to these political campaigns. Tens of millions of dollars buy campaign rallies and commercials. One candidate alone spent 17 million dollars on TV commercials in the Florida primary.

The vast majority of this money comes from donations, and these donors give millions to support political ideas. I wonder: how does giving to the church compare to giving to political candidates? From my perspective, the work of the church is eternal, while politicians—at best—hold office briefly. I believe every Christian should support God’s work and tithe for three important reasons:??

• The Scriptures explicitly instruct us to give ten percent to God’s kingdom work.
• God promises to bless good givers.??
• Christ taught that when we give, we lay up for ourselves treasures in heaven.??

The Bible invites you to test God in the matter of tithing. Will you begin to exercise your faith this year by investing weekly in Christ’s great work?
